Letter of Rev. Donald MacNicol to the editor of the 'Weekly Magazine'., 1778
Scope and Contents
Letter defending the authenticity of the poems of Ossian, in MacNicol's hand and signed "A Hebridean". Dated 1778 on the back in a different contemporary hand. A later hand adds the date "Oct.28th /36" at the top of the first page.
An earlier draft of this letter is at Acc.2152/57.
With a note on the back by John Francis Campbell of Islay, dated February 1871: "This contains a list of Gaelic poems which the Minister considers to be the originals of Ossian as published by MacPherson."
