Book of hours, possibly according to the Use of Utrecht., 15th century.

 Item
Identifier: MS.7133

Scope and Contents

The volume may be incomplete or may consist of fragments of two separate books (folios 110-141 are in a different hand from the rest of the volume); it is in any case in some confusion, having been incorrectly rebound.

The contents are as follows:

(i) Hours of the Cross (folio 2); (ii) Hours of the Eternal Wisdom (folio 28); (iii) Hours of the Holy Ghost (folios 53-68 as far as Sext; the remainder is at folios 143-150); (iv) Vigils of the Nine Lessons (folios 92-107, as far as the third Lesson; the remainder is at folios 69-90); (v) Suffrages of the saints (folio 110); (vi) Prayers to the Blessed Sacrament (folio 142, one leaf only; the remainder is at folios 108-109).

There are large miniatures within full borders depicting Christ (folio 1), the Betrayal (folio 27 verso), the Entombment (folio 52 verso), and an unidentified saint, possibly St Joseph (folio 91 verso). Large miniatures in the same style depicting Saints Barbara (folio 113), Jerome (folio 115), Hubert (folio 121), Andrew (folio 126), Peter (folio 128), and Christopher (folio 136), are loosely placed at the beginnings of the prayers addressed to them. Decorated initials throughout.
