Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

Correspondence, diaries, literary papers and photographs, 1973-2007, undated, of Don and Bridget MacCaskill.

Don MacCaskill was an eminent naturalist and forester who pioneered the blending of nature conservation with forestry practice. After his retirement as Chief Forester in Strathtyre and his wife Bridget concentrated on wildlife. They are especially known for their twelve year study of otters at Loch Teacuis on the Rathay Estate and the Eagle Watch project.

While Bridget recorded what they saw in her diaries and notebooks, Don took photographs. Together they produced a number of acclaimed outdoor books and numerous articles on their observations of Scottish wildlife.
