Scope and Contents

The contents of the manuscript are as follows:

(viii) Continued from Adv.MS.50.1.6(Part 1). A long series of manuscript sections, mingled with sections and leaves of corrected and amended proofs representing together a text corresponding closely to the final version of the Ossian essays. ‘Popular Tales of the West Highlands’, 4, pages 23-37, 40-42, 45-46, 50-56, 59-83, 92-113, 115-122, 128-151, 155-160. (ix) Much corrected and amended proofs, with additional manuscript material by John Francis Campbell and Hector MacLean, of the first part of the latter’s ‘On the Gaelic Poetry of Known and Unknown Bards’. ‘Popular Tales of the West Highlands’, 4, pages 160-185. The fragment, formerly folio 410, part of Campbell’s concluding comments on the Ossianic question, has been restored to its correct position at folio 161a. (Folio 309.)
