The fragment was recovered from the previous binding of a copy of the epigrams of Martial (Adv.MS.18.3.1) where it had been used as a pastedown inside the front cover, the recto being pasted to the board (on which traces of the offset are visible), and was pasted in doubtless to strengthen or repair the binding, which was of 13th-century provenance.
