Scope and Contents

Letters, 1850-1895, of John Barrow to John Murray III, with two to John Murray IV, and related letters. Many of them concern requests for publication on behalf of his friends or colleagues, and also on behalf of his brother George. One letter, 14 October 1853, concerns the discovery of the North-West Passage by McClure and an earlier article by John Barrow senior (1764-1848) on the subject. The letters are arranged in chronological order.
