Scope and Contents

This manuscript includes letters, 1902-1922, of Edgar Cecil, Viscount Cecil of Cherwood, known as Lord Robert Cecil, to John Murray IV.

Also includes letters, 1860-1903, of Robert Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury to John Murray III and John Murray IV.

Both sets of letters refer to works for publication with some consideration of politics.

Included with the letters of Robert Cecil is the correspondence between John Murray IV and Curtis Brown concerning rights to Cecil’s biography.

The letters, 1920-1922, of Gwendolen Cecil to John Murray IV, concern her work “Life of Robert, Marquis of Salisbury”. Some of the letters include replies.

All the letters are arranged alphabetically by correspondent and by date under each name.
