Hoare, A.

Letter, 21 August 1906, of A. Hoare, 37 Fleet Street [Hoare’s Bank], London, to John Murray IV. The letter concerns a proposal by Hoare to compile an Italian-English dictionary. Folios 1-2.

Hoare, Clement.

Letter, 26 November 1834, of Clement Hoare to the Reverend W. Holland, Cloisters, Chichester. The letter concerns sending black Hamburg grapes to John Murray II. Folios 3-4.

Letters, 31 December 1834 and 28 February 1835, of Clement Hoare to John Murray II. They concern Hoare’s wish that Murray publish his treatise on the cultivation of the vine. Folios 5-8.

Hoare, Henry William Hamilton-

Letters, 1899-1902 and undated, of Henry Hamilton-Hoare to John Murray IV and Hallam Murray. They concern publication of Hamilton-Hoare’s “The evolution of the English Bible: a historical sketch of the successive versions from 1382 to 1885” (1901 and 1902).

Undated, including an autobiographical sketch: folios 35-40.

Hoare, Laura.

Letters, 1901, 1913, 1925-1926, of Laura Hoare to John Murray IV. The letter for 1901 concerns a holiday in Switzerland. The letters for 1913 request advice for her nephew, Charles Edwards, about an article he had written. The letter for 1925 concerns the death of Laura Hoare’s husband, William. The letters for 1926 concern John Murray IV`s knighthood, and fundraising for charity. Folios 41-53.

Hoare, Richard Colt.

Letters, 1813-1814, 1818, 182?0, of Richard Hoare to John Murray II. They concern the business relationship between bookseller and client. They also relate to the publication of Hoare’s “Hints to travellers in Italy” (1815), and his writings on the ancient history of Wiltshire. Folios 82-97.

Hobbs, David.

Letters, 1902, of David Hobbs to John Murray IV. They concern the submission by Hobbs of the manuscript of his “Short life of J.G. Lockhart”, and its rejection by Murray. Folios 98-99.
