A number of the letters concern Meade’s brother, Herbert, and the publication of his “A ride through the disturbed districts of New Zealand” (1870). Included, folio 27, is a preparatory drawing by ?Edward Whymper for the illustration, “Ohinemutu Geyser, Mokoia Island and Lake Rotorua”, published facing page 39 in the work.
