Palgrave, Francis Turner.

Letters, 1854-1870, of Francis T. Palgrave to John Murray III. Among the subjects mentioned are: letters 1854-1855, Palgrave’s suggestions for changes to the “next edition” (3rd (1855)) of the “Handbook of painting. The Italian schools”, by Franz Kugler; and, letter, 7 January 1861, Palgrave’s request to be allowed to include a number of poems by Lord Byron in “a little selection of English Lyrical poetry” (the “Golden Treasury”) that Palgrave was then arranging with the “advice and assistance” of Alfred Tennyson.

Letters, 1871-1915, of Robert Palgrave to John Murray III, John Murray IV and Hallam Murray. The letters mostly concern the preparation and publication of works by Robert Palgrave on economic and monetary affairs, particularly:

“The local taxation of Great Britain and Ireland” (1871);

“Notes on banking in Great Britain and Ireland, Sweden, Denmark and Hamburg” (1873);

“Bank rate and the money market in England, France, Germany, Holland and Belgium, 1844-1900” (1903).

The letters for May 1903 concern the possibility that Palgrave was then to receive a knighthood.
