Scope and Contents

(1) Letters of Wellington to John Murray II.

(i) Note, 6 January 1835 (frank : 7 January 1835), of Wellington to John Murray II stating that he hoped to call on Murray

on “Thursday” and that he desired his letters to be kept at Murray’s house.

(ii) Letter, 19 January 1837, of Wellington to John Murray II requesting that Murray sends to him “as soon as they are published,

the correct report of Sir R. Peel’s speeches at Glasgow”.

(iii) Letter, 9 November [“Novr”] 1839 (postmark : 10 December 1839), of Wellington to John Murray II concerning a letter of “Mr Hope

the Dean of Faculty and the Lord Chancellor”.

(2) Letters of Wellington to other recipients.

(iv) Letter, 9 ?June 1835, of Wellington to “My dear Colonel”.

(v) Letter, 10 February 1837, of Wellington to Captain M[?], Royal Navy, acknowledging the receipt of the Captain’s journal and

offering to meet with him “to converse upon it”.

(3) Letters concerning Wellington.

(vi) Letter, 14 March [1835] (postmark : 17 March 1835), of Gerald Wellesley to John Murray II requesting that the second volume of

the Duke of Wellington’s “Dispatches” be sent to him.

(vii) Note, 16 February 1836 (watermark : 1827), of Robert Montgomery Martin forwarding “Lord Wellesley’s Autograph” to ?John

Murray II. The note includes annotations in the hand of John Murray II concerning a portrait of Wellington drawn by Samuel

Lawrence, after the bust by Joseph Nollekens, and engraved by Edward Finden.
