Folios 11-26. Papers relating to publications on the manuscripts of George Crabbe in the John Murray Archive.
ff. 11-17 : Offprint from "Studies in Bibliography : papers of the Bibliographical Society of the University of Virginia", volume 4,
1951-1952. The offprint is of an article, "The Murray reprints of George Crabbe : a publisher`s record", by Franklin
Batdorf. It is inscribed, at the head of folio 11 recto, by Batdorf to John Murray V.
ff. 18-23 : Photocopy, ? 4th quarter 20th century, of a typescript, circa 1950, of "Appendix B. List of Crabbe`s unpublished sermons
in Sir John Murray`s collection of manuscripts". The list relates to a bibliographical description of the Crabbe manuscripts
that was being prepared at the time by Franklin Batdorf.
ff. 24-26 : Typescript list, 1984, "The George Crabbe Notebooks in the archives of John Murray (Publishers) Ltd. adapted from the
description to be used in the Index of English Literary MSS". The list was compiled by Margaret Smith.
Folios 27-52. Papers concerning celebrations marking anniversaries of the life of George Crabbe :
f. 27 : manuscript list, 1905, of letters of George Crabbe requested from John Murray IV by Charles Ganz to be used in the
"George Crabbe Celebration. 150th anniversary, September 16th to 18th, 1905" at Aldeburgh, Suffolk;
ff. 28-52 : exhibition programme, 1954, "The seventh Aldeburgh Festival of Music and the Arts ... 12-20 June, 1954. George Crabbe
1754-1832 bi-centenary celebrations. Exhibition of works and manuscripts held at The Moot Hall Aldeburgh". Enclosed is
a compliments slip of the East Suffolk Education Committee addressed to John Murray V.
Folios 53-55. Ephemera :
ff. 53-54 : Christmas card, 1952, of John Murray, publishers, featuring : an image of the portrait of George Crabbe by Thomas
Phillips; an image of the manuscript of Crabbe`s verses on "Lord Byron`s Inscript upon a Newfoundland Dog", and a
transcription of the same;
f. 55 : cutting from a catalogue issued by Maggs Bros., annotated "Maggs cat Summer 1971". The cutting concerns a letter of
George Crabbe written 21 March 1823 in which he enquires of John Murray II whether a poem, not his own, which he had
sent to Murray had not been received.
