The manuscript is a composite of articles in typescript and offprint arranged in the sequence in which they were to be published in ‘Psychoanalytic Studies of the Personality’. The order of each article is indicated through the addition of a sequence number at the head of each title page.

Each of the articles has been amended by Fairbairn in preparation for its inclusion in ‘Psychoanalytic Studies of the Personality’.
