The correspondence is preceded by a borrowing-slip of the Advocate's Library signed by Sir Walter Scott, 1810 (folio 1). A letter of Samuel Brown on his theory of atomic transmutation, committed under seal to Dr Christison in 1841 and opened by him in 1858, is placed under this latter date (folio 200).
