Scope and Contents
The work is in the handwriting of J Skene (apparently Sir James Skene, Lord President Curriehill), whose signature occurs on folio 6.
It is preceded by an extract from ‘An historical essay showing that the crown and kingdom of Scotland is imperial and independent' (Edinburgh, 1705) by James Anderson, Writer to the Signet, in a hand of the eighteenth century (folio i); and short biographies of Scottish authors of the sixteenth century, partly taken from Thomas Dempster's 'Historia Ecclesiastica Gentis Scotorum' (Bologna, 1627), in another hand of the eighteenth century (folio 3 verso).
