Scope and Contents

The contents are as follows.

(i) Correspondence, 1800, of and relating to Henry Stuart, Cardinal York, in connection with the payment of a life annuity to him by George III. The letters include two of the banker Thomas Coutts, which were published in ‘Catalogue of Jacobite relics’ by A P Trotter. (Folio 1.)

(ii) ‘Declaration of James the 3d ... to all his subjects ... to serve as a foundation for a lasting peace in Europe’, 1722. (Folio 15.)

(iii) Account by Sir Robert Strange, of the Battle of Culloden, 1746, published in James Dennistoun, ‘Memoirs...’. (Folio 17.)

(iv) Extract from the journal of Captain Malcolm MacLeod, 1746, concerning Prince Charles' escape to Skye. (Folio 32.)

(v) 'Extract of a letter from Rome', 1766, on the death of the Old Pretender. (Folio 35.)

(vi) Several Jacobite poems, undated, including one addressed to Sir John Murray of Broughton 'On his turning evidence'. (Folio 37.)
