The correspondence includes a letter written by Annas Campbell, a child, to her grandfather, 1604 (folio 1); letters of the 2nd Earl, afterwards Duke, of Lauderdale to the 9th Earl of Argyll, describing minutely a cabinet with secret drawers, 1671 (folio 28); an order of the Privy Council to Argyll to find 'Lowland caution' in respect of his commission for the Highlands, 1680 (folio 31); an anonymous and unaddressed letter from London, giving news of home and foreign politics, and preparations for the relief of Londonderry, 1689 (folio 33); a copy of the report of the 1st Duke of Argyll to the Privy Council on his expedition to Mull, 1690 (folio 35); a copy of a letter of the Marquess of Argyll to Charles II, in the writer's own hand, undated (folio 39).
