The contents are as follows:
Letters, 1817-1831, undated, of Sir Walter Scott to George Huntly Gordon; passages, in Scott's hand, of ‘Ivanhoe’ and ‘Kenilworth’ and part of the preface to his edition of R Richard Franck's ‘Northern memoirs’; proofs of the preface corrected by Scott and Ballantyne; proofs, 1828, of the ‘Religious discourses’, corrected by Scott; two letters, 1837, undated, of Lockhart to Gordon; and other papers. The signatures have been cut from many of the letters. Letters not dated by Scott have been dated by George Huntly Gordon.
