For each year the accounts are arranged under the headings: food; alcoholic drink; medicine; household goods, furniture, etc.; cloth and clothing; books and stationery; lawyers', architects', and tradesmen's accounts; coal; building materials; seeds and plants; education; post; freight; travel; horses and coaches; livestock; servants' wages; and miscellaneous. There are traces of the original arrangement in occasional endorsements of numbers or letters and numbers, but it proved impossible to reconstitute this to any worthwhile extent. The accounts are dated by the date of payment if given, otherwise by the latest date appearing on them.
