The earlier papers are mainly personal and household accounts, and papers concerning the property of The Whim in Peeblesshire; after his succession to the Dukedom in 1743 the family estates in Argyllshire, Stirlingshire, and Dumbartonshire are added; the papers on Inveraray Castle and New Town are especially noteworthy.
