The diaries cover the years 1855-1884, with some gaps. Although the entries are often sparse and in later years concern chiefly financial matters, the diaries cover almost the entirety of Francis Richard's career from his days as a law student at Harvard, to his career in the family's manufacturing business in Gardiner, Maine, and his death in 1884.
