The contents are as follows: (a) Letters to Robert Chalmers, solicitor, Edinburgh, from his niece Katherine Forbes Crauford, 1768; from the portrait painter Anne Forbes and her mother and sister, 1772-1773, concerning her work in London and including a list of portraits by her; from the Countess of Dumfries, 1788, and from David Rae (later Lord Eskgrove), undated, concerning admission to the Select Society (folio 118); (b) Epigram, 1747, on, and letter and poems, 1770-1777, undated, of, Mrs Alison Cockburn (folio 151); (c) Letter, 1785, of Henry Dundas, Viscount Melville concerning the Scottish clergy (folio 165); (d) Memorandum, 1787, of James Gregory, Professor of Medicine, concerning the advertising of classes at Edinburgh University (folio 167); (e) Two letters, 1830, undated, of Sir Walter Scott to Robert Pringle of Fairnilee concerning the road between Selkirk and Galashiels, and to John Pringle of Clifton concerning a dog (folio 169); (f) Fragments of a history, early 19th century, of the Pringles of Haining (folio 174); (g) Address panels cut from letters, 1836, of Lord Brougham to Miss Drysdale, Edinburgh (folio 207); (h) Three pen and ink and three watercolour sketches, 19th century, illustrating characters of Dickens (folio 209); (i) Two etchings, undated, one by A F van der Meulen (folio 215).
