Scope and Contents
The contents are as follows. (i) An engraving (16 x 10.5 centimetres) by John Kay of Edinburgh, 1798, of General Sir Ralph Abercromby reviewing his troops (folio 1); (ii) An engraving (18 x 11.5 centimetres) by Thomas Kelly of London, 1816, depicting the 'Death of Sir Ralph Abercrombie', 1801 (folio 2); (iii) An engraving, (13 x 10.5 centimetres), undated, and artist not known, of a portrait of Sir Ralph Abercromby (folio 3); (iv) A photograph, (13 x 10 centimetres), undated, by the Arundel Society, of the juvenile portrait of James, 1st Baron Dunfermline, by David Allan (folio 4); (v) A photograph (13 x 10 centimetres) from the same source of the portrait of Lord Dunfermline by Sir John Watson Gordon (folio 5); (vi) Ink silhouette, undated, of an unidentified lady, possibly a member of the Abercromby family (folio 6); (vii) Copy of a letter, 1799, of King George III to Henry Dundas, later Viscount Melville, on the marriage of his daughter, Montague, to George, later Lord Abercromby (folio 7); (viii) Letters, July-September 1834, summoning James Abercromby to meetings of the Cabinet (folio 8); (ix) Political letters, papers and printed ephemera, 1834-1839, relating to Scottish elections, particularly in Edinburgh and Leith (folio 20); (x) Printed copy of the ‘Speech of the Honourable James Abercrombv to his Constituents at Edinburgh on 30th December 1834’ (Edlnburgh, 1835) (folio 41); (xi) ‘Speech of Sir John Campbell to his Constituents at Edinburgh on 3D January 1835’ (Edinburgh, 1835) (folio 45); (xii) Various press cuttings, 1839, undated, chiefly on the Lady Flora Hastings affair (folio 49); (xiii) Cutting from the ‘Scotsman’, 19 April 1858, with an obituary notice of the 1st Baron Dunfermline (folio 55); (xlv) Miscellaneous letters, covers, papers and printed ephemera, 1834-1887, undated (folio 56).
