Scope and Contents
Leaves not consecutive, pricked, ruled in drypoint, and rubricated.
The Ordinal, which appears to be the same as that used elsewhere by the Cistercian Order at this period is described briefly in David McRoberts, ‘Catalogue of Scottish liturgical Books Fragments’.
Robert, son of Robert, Lord Keith (died ?1514), was appointed Commendator of the Abbey of Deer in 1543, and was succeeded on his death by his nephew Robert, second son of William Earl Marischal (succeeded 1526-1527), in 1551. In 1587, having resigned the lands and other properties of the Abbey into the King's hands, Robert obtained a charter under the Great Seal erecting the lands into the temporal lordship of Altrie. Upon Robert's death, his nephew, George, Earl Marischal (succeeded 1581), succeeded to the estates and title.
