The title is written in gold capitals on each cover.
Leaves are watermarked 1796.
The catalogue consists of English (beginning folio 2, with some additions folio 1 verso), French (folio 25), Italian (folio 43) and Latin books (folio 49), alphabetically arranged. The other writings consist of a note apparently by the donor on the Scotts of Buccleuch (folio 85 verso); measurements of height, 1784-1818, (folio 86 verso, 92) and weights, 1777-1818, (folio 89 verso) of members of the Buccleuch family, their friends and their guests; measured distances in Dalkeith park (folio 88 verso); and names of holders of keys for park, garden, house and library at Dalkeith (folio 93 verso).
Much of the volume is blank.
