Scope and Contents

This section consists of papers of the Kinninmonds of Kinninmond, of Sir Alexander Murray, 2nd Baronet of Melgund (circa 1708-1736), and of Hugh Dalrymple Murray Kynynmound of Melgund and Kynymmound (died 1741). Grizel, only child of Patrick Kinninmond of Kinninmond (died 1702), married first Sir Alexander Murray, 1st Baronet of Melgund (1682-1713), and second Thomas Kennedy of Dunure. On the death of Sir Alexander Murray, 2nd Baronet, the Kinninmond estate at Lochgelly and the estate of Melgund came under an entail to Hugh Dalrymple, Advocate, second son of Sir David Dalrymple, 1st Baronet of Hailes, and Janet, daughter of Sir James Rochead of Inverleith and widow of Alexander Murray of Melgund (father of the 1st Baronet). Hugh Dalrymple assumed the additional surnames of Murray Kynynmound; his only child and heiress, Agnes, married Sir Gilbert Elliot, 3rd Baronet of Minto.
