"Rann Uistean", beginning 'Turus a chaidh mi air astar a Cheanntaile, / Chunna mi daoin' uaisle tlachdmhor caomhnail, pairteach'. 12 stanzas of mostly 8 lines, first printed in Macintyr'e 'Orain Ghaidhealach' (Edinburgh 1790), pp. 199-202. Folios 9-10v.

"Rann an Eric Roinn eile", beginning 'Anna ninghean Uilleam ann Cromba'. 7 stanzas of 8 lines, first printed in 'Orain Ghaidhealach', pp. [203]-205. Folios 10v-11v.

[MacDonald, Alasdair mac Mhaighstir Alasdair]. Large single sheet, containing song headed "Oran luaigh, Glengerrie's Pastoral, no Failte Morthir", beginning 'Failt ort fein, a Mhorthir bhoigheach, an san og mhis bhealltin.' Refrain, noted below the title: 'Heitirin arin urin ohoro, heitirin arin oro'. 59 verses. In the hand of Rev. Donald MacNicol. Docketed on the back: 'Heidigain arin'. First printed in a version of 30 verses, with no author named, in Ronald MacDonald of Eigg's 'Comh-chruinneachidh orannaigh gaidhealach' (Edinburgh 1776), pp. 118-121. Formerly Acc.2152/30. [Ossianic fragment]. Bifolium, quarto-sized, containing verses headed "A fragment of a poem ascribed to Ossian", beginning ''Se gu' anam mo rùn a t' ann. / O's ainimig gu aisling Mhalmhion 'u.' 57 lines. On the back, in the hand of Rev. James McLagan of Blair Atholl, is written 'As-tharruing', which may connect this item to the one that follows on folios 14-15. Versions of this lay were first printed in William Shaw's 'Analysis of the Galic Language' (London 1778), pp. 145-148, and John Gillies' 'Sean Dain, agus orain Ghaidhealach' (Perth 1786), pp. 29-30 and 210-211, under the title "Aisling Mala-mhin". [Ossianic fragment]. Quarto-sized booklet of four leaves, the last two blank. Containing verses headed "As thairngeadh o dhanaibh Oissein", beg. 'Ghluais am Fearghus armail og / Air an ròd an coinneamh na'm fear'. A fragment of the poem known as "Ossian agus an Cleirich"; for a fuller version of this see MS.14854, ff. 1-5. In the hand of Rev. Mac Gille-Sheathanaich (Shaw), Seumas. Two conjoined folio sheets with paper date 1806, containing a song headed "Oran do Shemas Mac-an-tshaoir Ghlinne-Noadh le Samas Mac-Ille heanich, no Shaw, Bard-loch-na-Ealla", beginning 'Thoir beannachdan le dhurach bhuam, / Ghabh curam 's na dean di-chuin''. 12 stanzas of 4 lines, with 4-line refrain, labelled 'air fonn', beginning 'Fear duth, fear duth, fear duth, fear duth'. A song to James Macintyre of Glenoe. First printed in A. and D. Stewart, 'Cochruinneacha Taoghta de Shaothair nam Bard Gaëlach' (Edinburgh 1804), pp. 132-134 and J. [Unidentified author]. Small single sheet, containing verses, unheaded, beginning 'Aill leom olla, an rath thriath, / Bidham tre each o siath'. 16 lines. Formerly Acc.2152/37. Folio 22.

[Ossianic verse]. Booklet of 4 folios, containing verses headed "Duan a Ghairibh", beginning 'Erich a chu an teiridh / Chi mi n' loingeas ha do labhra'. 8 stanzas of mostly 4 lines, each followed by an English paraphrase with numerous corrections. The Gaelic text is in the hand of Rev. Donald MacNicol, the translation in an unidentified hand and different ink. The translator also adds the date 1752 to the first page, which is the date of the manuscript that contains the fuller Gaelic version, MS.14856. At the head of folio 24r is written in the translator's hand: 'The vulgar Irish alphabet', with a row of letters given below, a number of which are from the Roman alphabet rather than the Gaelic. [Unidentified author]. Small single sheet, containing a song, unheaded, beginning 'La gho 'smi 'n Coill a Bhainich, / Haichin Duthil orm na dheannibh'. Refrain: 'Hillin o hi, o hu, o ho, o ro, ho i, ithil o ho, Illin &c.' 19 stanzas. The first stanza has two different lines, the second has the same line written twice, and the remaining stanzas each have one line that was likely to be sung twice. In the hand of Rev. [Unidentified author]. Small single sheet, containing nine lines of verse with no heading, possibly connected to the previous song. In the hand of Dugald MacNicol. The lines begin 'Chi mi 'n bata mach gu shuileach / Tha i teanadh air mo dhuthich.' With a refrain of five lines, 'Hillin o hì, o hù, o hò, / Ho ròho hì, huile o hao, / Hillin o hì, o hù, o hò, / Dh'fagadh luchmhor ladir Cath i / Aighearach a shiubhal cuain i.' The verso contains a fragment of a love song in English, beg. 'The morning fresh, ye sun in East new gilds ye smiling day'. Song, unheaded, beginning ''n shin nar hanig bhean oig as an Teaghil / 's i lan do mhulad 's do phraibh'. 6 stanzas of 8 lines, with refrain of 4 lines: 'Poiste ceangilte tean / Poiste a bebhin bhi ann, / Nach airichir hachir don Righ / Bha poiste, ceangilte teann'. A Gaelic version of Alexander Ross's song "Woo'd and married and a'"; not the same as the Gaelic translation of the same song printed in Thomas Forrest's 'An sugradh, no orain aighir agus criodhalais' (Edinburgh 1777), pp. 45-48. [Unidentified author]. Song of 8 lines, unheaded, beginning 'Chunnig misse Mor nuair a b og s nuair bu mhillis i'. Probably belonging to a version of "Mòr nighean a' Ghiobarlain" (cf. e.g. A. & A. MacDonald, 'The MacDonald Collection of Gaelic Poetry' (Inverness 1911), pp. 278-280. Folio 32r.

Song in English, beginning 'The sun was sunk beneath the main, / Bright Cynthia silvered all the plain'. 3 stanzas, printed e.g. in 'The Goldfinch, or New Modern Songster' (Glasgow, [ca. 1785]), pp. 131-132, with title "Something else to do". Folio 32v.

[Morrison, Aonghas Dubh]. Large bifolium containing a song headed "Buabastair na beirste", beginning 'Beir fios gu buabastair na beirste / Thuirt rium agu'n bhrist mi aitribh'. A satire, printed anonymously under the title "Aoire" in John Gillies' 'Sean Dain, agus orain Ghaidhealach' (Perth 1786), pp. 138-139; it also appears elsewhere with the opening line 'Daibhidh gresogach, crom, ciar'. [Unidentified author]. Small single sheet, the bottom torn off but with no loss of text. Contains on the recto 4 lines beginning 'Buainidh mi 'm buathallan aigh / Air shealbhaich grais do'd chuid cruidh', followed by 8 lines headed "Sian a Chruidh", beginning 'Cuiridh mise 'n t' sian a chuir muir/ Mun chradh a bha sa choillidh'. [Mull poet]. Small single sheet, containing song headed "Molladh le banabhard ann n Muile do Mhnaoidh uasail àridh, air fonn Oh! tha mishe fo mhullad / O hi ma tha cha bhi tuilli / Oh tha mishe fo mhullad". Begins 'Togadhmid na focail gu righoil / Eir mhnaoidh oig bhannail bheusich / Chèitaich Pheinnighoun'. 27 lines of text arranged in units of mostly three lines, but rhyme or metre not discernible. [Campbell, Pàdraig]. Small single sheet, cut from a larger sheet with a decorative border, containing a song, unheaded, beginning 'A ho ro gur thu mo rùn / Thug mi n gaol nach b' aireach leom'. 8 stanzas of 4 lines, all ending in ''S toigh leam fein mo Mhari òg' or similar. A version of this song, where the first four lines as given here are taken to be the refrain, is printed in A. Sinclair's 'An t-Òranaiche / The Gaelic Songster', Glasgow 1879, pp. 127-129. The author is identified by Sinclair as 'Paraig Caimbeul (Paraig Mor Ard-Seile), sealgair fhiadh', and Màiri òig is said to be his gun. In the hand of Dugald MacNicol. Formerly Acc.2152/50. Single sheet (half of a folio sheet cut lengthwise), containing an unheaded song beginning ''S mi bhi gabhail 'n rathaid / She n' aidhir, 's mor m' eishlein / Mon 'n sgèule sheo fhuair mi / Dh'fhag mo Chualain gun rèiteach / Mu mhac Dhuthuill mhic Ruairi', followed by 24 further lines. Small single sheet, containing an incomplete version of Eachann Bacach's song to Sir Lachlan Maclean, beginning 'Thriall ar bunadh gu Phàra', first printed in Ronald MacDonald of Eigg's 'Comh-chruinneachidh orannaigh gaidhealach' (Edinburgh 1776), pp. 85-89; cf. also Colm Ó Baoill, 'Eachann Bacach and other Maclean poets' (Edinburgh: Scottish Gaelic Texts Society, 1979), pp. 14-25 and notes. Stanzas in the manuscript are marked 5-15, preceded by 4 lines of stanza 4, beginning here 'Edir smeorich is ghraine (/gaine)'. Campbell, John. Folio-sized bifolium containing a copy made by Rev. Donald MacNicol of letters, 1762, of John Campbell to Rev. Alexander McTavish. On the subject of druids and human sacrifices. John Campbell remains unidentified; he mentions in his first letter that at the time of writing he is on the point of leaving the country. Formerly Acc.2152/54. Folios 41-42.

Letter, 1789, of Donald Campbell, Inveraray, to MacNicol, including a copy of a letter sent to him by Lieut.-General George Henry Hutton. As part of his research for a history of the ecclesiastical antiquities of Scotland, Hutton had written to a large number of persons with a request for information, some of whom, as in this case, forwarded his letters to others on his behalf.
