Scope and Contents

A folder containing copies, probably made in the early 20th century, of two sermons in English and small collection of poems in English. The scribe has not been identified. The contents are:

Part (i):

Sermon in English on Eph. 4: 26, by an unidentified author. According to Mackechnie's catalogue, vol. 1, page 337, this is a copy of Acc.2152/64, now missing, which was dated 4 August 1839. A prayer in English, which formed part of the original, does not form part of this copy. 20 folios, quarto, written on the recto only. The last leaf is blank. Formerly Acc.2152/66.

Part (ii):

MacNicol, Donald. Sermon in English on Romans 12:3. According to Mackechnie's catalogue, vol. 1, page 337, this is a copy of Acc.2152/65, now missing, which was written in MacNicol's own hand. 24 folios, quarto, written on the recto only. Formerly Acc.2152/67.

Part (iii):

A copy of a small collection of poems in English. The author is not identified. Mackechnie, vol. 1, page 337, suggests that they were composed by "Donald McNicol's son". Formerly Acc.2152/68. Containing:

Poem, untitled, beginning 'Gay occupants of this sequestered Isle'. 3 stanzas of 9 lines. Folios 1-2.

Poem, untitled, beginning 'Why call this book an album? Why?' 5 stanzas of 4 lines. Folios 2-3.

Sonnet entitled "The apology for having kissed Virginia while asleep on board the Belle 6th May 1854", beginning 'I snatched but one ambrosial kiss'. Folios 3-4.
