This bar on Rose Street in Edinburgh features heavily in the Inspector Rebus novels as Rebus’s preferred spot for a drink or a meeting with an informant. One of Ian Rankin’s flatmates while he was in graduate school was a server at this bar, and it became one of Rankin’s own favourite spots, leading him to later use it in his novels.

Rebus Tours. Folios 92-99.

The Rebus Tours were founded in 2000 by Edinburgh native John Skinner with the endorsement of Ian Rankin and Orion Publishing Group. The tours take attendees across Edinburgh to visit locations featured in the Inspector Rebus novels and include readings from the novels. The articles are arranged chronologically. This series also contains leaflets advertising the tours.

This art exhibit was organised by Ian Rankin and Edinburgh-based American gallery owner Zin Craig as an exhibition of prisoners’ art and Rankin’s prose displayed together to create a ‘murder mystery tour’. The exhibit was opposed by the Scottish Prison Service.
