 File

Scope and Contents

The five volumes here contain copies of letters of Douglas Kinnaird. The descriptions below are taken from how Kinnaird has described them on the front cover. The volumes contain copy letters of Kinnaird to various correspondents, many of which relate to either his brother, Charles Kinnaird, 8th Baron Kinnaird, or his friend, Lord Byron. The volumes have been arranged in chronological order.

‘Lord K’s affairs Oct 1815’, 9 Oct 1815-4 Dec 1815: folios 1-48;

‘No. 2 Lord K’s affairs from Dec 4 1815’, 4 Dec 1815- 27 Dec 1816: folios 49-96;

‘No. 3 Lord K’s affairs from Jany 1st 1817’, 31 Dec 1816-24 July 1817: folios 97-142;

A note on one cover page reads ‘Lord K’s affairs and Scotch Elections’, but this has been scored out. The volume was at some point inverted and copy letters written from the other direction in the volume, with a note on the front reading ‘Dec 1817’. It is clear from the manuscript that a number of folios have been removed, 9 Oct 1817-5 Aug 1818: folios 143-176, with folios 172-176 containing the inverted letters;

‘Aug 26th 1818 – Sundries – Lord K’s affairs and Lord Byron’s affairs’. The volume has been inverted and copies of letters recorded from both ends, 26 Aug 1818-18 Nov 1819: folios 177-223, with folios 214-223 containing the inverted letters.
