Charter of confirmation under the Great Seal in favour of Robert, bishop of Ross, confirming the following charters granted in his favour viz: (1) Charter (dated at Edinburgh 8th November, 1541) by William Craufurde of Hanyng of an annualrent of 20 merks Scots furth of his east fourth part of the Mains of Hanyng in the barony of Manwell and sheriffdom of Striveling. (2) Charter (dated at Edinburgh 20 May, 1542) by the said William Craufurde of an annualrent of 20 merks Scots furth of the one-half of the east side of the Mains of Hanyng, and (3) a charter (dated at Edinburgh 14 March 1541) by Robert Mowbray of Bernbowgall of an annualrent of £25 6s.8d Scots furth of his lands of Fowlfurde in the barony of Cvir Berntoun and sheriffdom of Edinburgh; dated at Edinburgh., 15 August 1542.
Scope and Contents
Contains 71 writs and three detached seals, with Cairncross Charters of the Regality of Melrose (listed in "Selections from the Regality of Melrose", volume III, (1917), pp 373-382).
Please note that the Rutherford name is represented variously throughout the charters, including Ruderfurde, Ruthirfurde, and Rutherfurde.
This collection consists of material transferred from the Scottish Record Office to the National Library, and is supplementary to the main body of Rutherfurd of Edgerston Papers (Acc.7676) held by the National Library.
