Related Materials

The manuscript is the earliest of five copies of Eusebius by Antonio di Mario, all similar in size and arrangement; the others are:

Vatican MS.lat.243 (written 1435);

Vienna Nat.Bibl.MS.344 (1437);

Florence Laur.89.5 (1440);

Florence Laur.S.Marc.362 (1452).

Apparently connected with Adv.MS.1.1.5 is a Eusebius in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, MS.285, of similar size and also written in 1426, though not by di Mario; cf. F Wormald and P M Giles, Illuminated Manuscripts in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, 1967, no.83, who suggest that both derive from a copy made by Poggio in 1408-9 (Florence Laur.67.15).

Bibliography

This is number 9 in the list of 42 signed manuscripts of Antonio di Mario given by B L Ullman, `The origin and development of humanistic script`, pages 99-104 (Rome, 1960). See pages 104-109 for a discussion of his script.
