Custodial History

The manuscript was lot 1926 in Chalmers’ sale ‘Catalogue’, part 3 (London, 1842). It was bought subsequently by the Advocates` Library at Sotheby`s, 16 June, 1896, lot 1027. In the Sotheby sale-catalogue a list of chartularies and their location in 1792 is said be included with the manuscript. Miss Catherine R Borland, in her (unpublished) `Catalogue of the Medieval Manuscripts in the Library of the Faculty of Advocates`, compiled 1906-1908, says in her description of this manuscript (volume II, page 590): `At the end have been appended a "List of Chartularies and where they now are Nov. 1792", and also an Index of Royal Charters to the different monasteries.` When the manuscript was examined in 1966, these items were found to be missing.
