Scope and Contents

The title is recorded on folio 1.

The volume consists of a copy of a list of summaries of formal or legal documents relating to bequests of money and property to various religious institutions from the early fifteenth century (undated, but before 1425) to 1592, followed by summaries of bequests made at various times between 1613 and 1652 (folio 51) and `Additions` (folio 59 verso) consisting of further summaries of bequests made both before and after the Reformation, down to 1703.

The entries do not appear to have been written in any order, although a roughly chronological sequence is discernible in places, and the list begins with a number of undated, but early, entries.

An index written by Robert Mylne in 1709 of persons and places mentioned in the text (folio 63) is recorded on leaves added to the end of the volume.

Custodial History

It is not known who owned this volume after Robert Mylne, nor when it was acquired by the Advocates’ Library. It does not appear in the sale Catalogue of Mylne’s books, manuscripts and medals printed at Edinburgh in 1748 but the deed concerning the `Hospital of Jerusalem` in Edinburgh (folio 15) is printed from this copy in ‘Nugae Derelictae’.

Presented, 1925, by the Faculty of Advocates to the nation on the foundation of the National Library of Scotland.

Existence and Location of Originals

The source of Adv.MS.13.2.7 is unidentified, but at Adv.MS.16.1.1, folio 127, `Extracted out of Scotstarvets Collections` is added to the title.

According to an unsigned note, dated 8 September 1837, inside the front cover of Adv.MS.13.2.7 the copy was made from Adv.MS.16.1.1, which was ascribed to John Freebairn (or Fairbairn), minister of Madderty.
