Identifier: Adv.MS.18.6.18

Scope and Contents

The manuscript was made in the western Netherlands, probably in the province of South Holland.

The contents are as follows:

(i) Calendar and table of Golden Numbers in red and black. Entries in red include Saints Servatius (13 May), Jero (17 August) and Lambert (17 September). June and November are missing. (Folio 1.)

(ii) Hours of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a hymn `Ave rosa sine spinis’ (‘Repertorium hymnologicum’, number 2084), and `Obsecro te`. (Folio 12.)

(iii) Hours of Eternal Wisdom of Henricus Suso. (Folio 43.)

(iv) Hours of the Passion. (Folio 59.) Capital excised from leaf, folio 69. This was known at the time of donation.

(v) Penitential Psalms and Litany. (Folio 75.)

(vi) `Stabat mater`, prayers, and the hymn ‘Salve virgo virginum’ (‘Repertorium hymnologicum’, number 18318). (Folio 89.)

(vii) Suffrages and prayers. (Folio 98.)

(viii) Office of the Dead. (Folio 117.)

(ix) Hours of the Cross added in a later hand. (Folio 144.)

Alterations and additions have been made throughout in two hands; the Litany in particular contains many erasures and additions. Among the additions is the hymn ‘Quem terra, pontus, aethera colunt’ (‘Repertorium hymnologicum’, number 16347).

There are some full and partial borders of scrolls, foliage, and flowers, with a few animals, birds and insects. The larger initials are blue with stylised foliage on a gold ground.
