Fair copy in a contemporary hand of ‘De jure successionis andc regni Angliae Libri duo’ by Sir Thomas Craig.
Scope and Contents
This was one of several works written in reply to ‘A Conference abovt the next svccession to the crowne of Ingland’ written in 1594 by `N. Doleman` (a pseudonym for a group of Recusant exiles led by Sir Francis Englefield, but then and long afterwards thought to be of Robert Parsons, Society of Jesus).
The dedication of the work, to King James VI of Scotland, is dated 1 January 1603: the peaceful accession of James to the throne of England later that year was probably deemed by Craig to make the publication of his work unnecessary.
Tipped in at the end (folio 233) is an unrelated scrap of paper recording receipts of cess paid 1691-1695 by Thomas Cubie in Prestonpans.
