Copy of Stair`s ‘Institutions of the Law of Scotland’ written apparently in or about 1662.

 ...
Identifier: Adv.MS.25.1.10

Scope and Contents

The general arrangement is the same as that of the first printed edition of 1681 (except that Titles 18 and 19 appear in reverse order) but the text is generally shorter and the titles are usually divided into fewer paragraphs.

The name W Primerose, possibly the signature of Sir William Primrose of Elphinstoun, is written several times at folios i, ii and iii, together with a variety of Latin tags, pen-flourishes, arithmetical calculations, and (at folio ii) a version of the Apostles` Creed in somewhat unmetrical Latin hexameters. On the outer cover is a signature in a contemporary hand which cannot be read with certainty.

Between folios 6 and 7 one leaf has been lost, and after folio 236 are the remains of about 12 leaves that have been cut out.
