The notebooks are of particular interest, as each of the four professors whose lectures are represented in these notes is the subject of an essay by Sir James Matthew Barrie in ‘An Edinburgh eleven’ (London, 1889). The essays originally appeared in the 'British Weekly', 1887-1888.
