Custodial History

The volumes were bought by the National Library of Scotland with the aid of the Reid Fund.

The volume belonged in 1834 to Sir James Boswell, in whose family it seems to have been since the time of Lord Auchinleck (see ‘Analecta Scotica’, volume i, page 395); in 1894 it belonged to John Scott, Greenock (see ‘History and antiquities of the parish of Mid-Calder’, page 23); and after that to Erskine Beveridge, editor of ‘The burgh records of Dunfermline’, who has made a note of the two previous ownerships and been responsible, presumably, for the transcript.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Bought, 1941.
