Stories used, but not printed exactly, in the article, 'Alarming Increase of Depravity among Animals', in “Blackwood's Magazine”, October 1817: story of an innocent gentleman who acquired a thieving dog, in Scott's hand (folio 7; “Blackwood's Magazine”, page 85); accounts of Murdieston and Millar, who used their dog for sheep-stealing, in Laidlaw's hand, with some alterations by Scott (folio 8; “Blackwood's Magazine”, pages 84-85).
