Account book of the Church Treasurer of St Brice, Second Charge, Kirkcaldy.
Scope and Contents
The accounts show the main sources of revenue for the Church as being the weekly collections and the seat rents. The debursements are in aid of the poor generally, some of the local people being mentioned by name. Allowance is also made for the upkeep of the fabric of the Church. The accounts are regularly audited by the Minister and members of the Kirk Session.
The contents are as follows:
(i) Receipts for collections, 1683-1690 (folio 1);
(ii) Receipts for seat rents, 1690-1709 (folio 34);
(iii) List of pews, with number and names of seatholders, and amount of seat rent, 1708-1712 (folio 50 verso);
(iv) Debursements by the kirk treasurer, 1683-1689 (folio 1 inverted);
(v) Miscellaneous receipts and debursements, 1689-1709 (folio 43 inverted).
