Folios 2-3 (John Mackenchie’s ‘A’ folios 1-2).

The text is written by what appears to be a single hand, rather angular, quite small and neat. It is rubricated in red. A later hand writes ?’Sean’ at folio 2 recto. A further hand corrects the text, and writes ‘a ba’ at folio 3 verso.

On Isidore’s commentary on Aphorisms of Johannes Damascenus, cf. Adv.MS.72.1.13, folio 1 recto, column a, line 1. Beginning (acephalous) ‘maille [re] duintibh na n-ae’ = Adv.MS.72.1.22, folio 1 verso, column b, line 40. First complete section beginning ‘Ballnium aut temp[er]ata pocio vini’. Folio 2 verso ends ‘don inchinn bis is moide’ (= Adv.MS.72.1.22, folio 3 recto, column a, 4th last line, and Adv.MS.72.1.23, folio 3 verso, column b, line 23) in section beginning ‘Si quis vult purgare’. There is then a considerable lacuna due to missing leaves. Folio 3 recto begins ‘a com[artha] cainnser is geimr[eadh] aca ann sin’; first complete section beginning ‘Defisiente virtute prinsipalia membra defisiunt’. Ends folio 3 recto, column b, line 33, ‘⁊ do gach ni ele oibr[igh]eas do reir cumachtan. Finit. Amen’, i.e. end of section beginning ‘Plurim concrepant [et] rasio testatur’. Relates to printed text of Damascenus (1514 edition) as follows:
