Scope and Contents
Personal and political papers, 1899-1953, of John McDiarmid Airlie (1886-19), Labour Councillor and Parliamentary candidate to Ayr Burghs, related to his involvement in the Trade Union and Labour movement.
The collection includes some interesting correspondence from Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald (1866-1937) and from Labour Ministers of Fuel and Power Hugh Gaitskell (1906-1963) and Philip Noel-Baker, Baron Noel-Baker (1889-1982). It also includes some printed papers and photographs, 1932-1953, relating to the work of Airlie`s son Robert McGregor Airlie, engineer with Edinburgh Water Board, and a collection of songbooks and printed music, c. 1900-1960, probably belonging to John Airlie’s mother.
