Synopses of screenplays by Roger MacDougall, including some written with Allan MacKinnon.

 Collection
Identifier: Acc.13347

Scope and Contents

A small collection of synopses, libretti and scripts of stage and screen plays by Roger MacDougall (1910-1993), including some written with Allan MacKinnon (1912-1955), and one with Alexander MacKendrick (1912-1993). All but one are undated and the estimated date range is circa 1935-1945. They were found among the papers of Edward Owen Marsh, translator and adapter (information from vendor). The synopses were presumably written for submission to theatres and film studios in the hope that a commission would result, but none of the titles in the collection appear to have made it onto stage or screen.

Roger MacDougall was evidently an inveterate ‘doodler’ and many of the manuscripts are decorated with rather well-drawn heads. He is best-known for co-writing ‘The Man in the White Suit’ (1951), based on his own play, and ‘The Mouse That Roared’ (1959).
