Refers to the lands of Dalmakeran, Karr, Enach, and Trevercrag in Carrick, in the period circa 1316-1318. Carlton was an ancestor of the Cathcarts of Killochan, and may have been the man in charge of the commissariat of Edward III`s army in 1327.

The contents of the deed have been long available in calendar form from the note made by Thomas Hamilton, 1st Earl of Haddington, from the lost sixth roll of the register of the Great Seal of Robert I. His version, printed in `Registrum Magni Sigilli Regum Scotorum 1306-1424`, 1912, p 458, is to be found in Adv.MS.34.2.1b, folio 161.
