Among the papers of the Robertsons the chief correspondents are Principal William Robertson, the historian, and his son William, a Senator of the College of Justice. The correspondence of the Principal includes letters of scholars, British and foreign (Voltaire among others), about his works, information on the American Indians, 1774-1777, and threats regarding his attitude to Roman Catholics, 1778-1779. Sir William Foulis, 8th Baronet, married in 1843 Henrietta Ramage Liston, the great niece and heiress of Sir Robert Liston, the diplomatist. He then assumed the additional name of Liston before his own.
