Scope and Contents
A number of the letters are addressed to members of the family of William Blackwood the publisher (died 1834), and the correspondents include literary celebrities and eminent soldiers of the nineteenth-century. It includes: two pages of a manuscript by Fitzgerald Ross (no. 15) and letters of Roderick Murchison (no. 17), Elizabeth Gaskell (no. 50), Agnes Strickland (no. 52) and George Henry Lewes (no. 53).

The letters are of interest only as autographs, and it is clear from the mutilated state of the album, as well as from the index found in it, that many other letters are missing, the pages on which they had been pasted having been clumsily cut out.
