The manual, compiled in 1698 (dates on pages 334a, 401), contains arithmetic, based on E Cocker's ‘Arithmetick’, with some rules for extracting roots by algebra and logarithms; "the doctrine of decimall fractions takne out of Mr. Coker's Decimall Arithmetick", (page 156); and 'the doctrine of plain triangles, or ... plain trigonometry' (page 334a), with rules for ascertaining heights, etc., with instruments.The words 'Heir endeth so much of the arithmetick as a souldier ought...
