Scope and Contents The charters of the Minto family include titles to all the lands owned by the family in Roxburghshire, Fife, and Angus. The Roxburghshire titles include a few from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries but they and the Angus titles are not numerous until the seventeenth century. Scope and Contents

Robert Cadell (1788-1849) was the partner of Archibald Constable, and, after the dissolution of that partnership in 1825, the sole publisher of Walter Scott's novels. His papers reflect his personal and business relations with Scott and other authors, as well as his family affairs.

The papers appear to have belonged to Lord Swinton, and may be the collection of the Reverend Samuel Semple, Swinton’s maternal grandfather (cf. FES i, 172).
