Scope and Contents From the Fonds:

The collection consists of manuscripts on a wide variety of subjects, many copied from manuscript or printed works, and chiefly dating from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Among them are some account-books, diaries, and other manuscripts of family interest (including a few concerning the 2nd Earl of Buckinghamshire, father of the 6th Marchioness of Lothian), but very few letters.

Scope and Contents From the Fonds: These papers, the surviving archive of the Edinburgh Society of Musicians, run from the foundation of the Society in 1887 - though it includes a small amount of earlier material - to 1982, and in addition to providing a very full account of the Society's own history, it contains much concerning the history of music-making in Edinburgh in the 20th Century. Included in the collection are the papers of the Edinburgh Harmonists' Society which could trace its descent from the Edinburgh Musical...

The first catalogue of the Library. It is in the same handwriting as another manuscript copy, also in the Library, bound with printed sale-catalogues, press-mark, H.35.d.1(5), but contains later accessions in a different hand.

A list, chiefly of religious and historical works, dating from the end of the seventeenth or the beginning of the eighteenth century (folios 2-13), with, in the same hand, a list of books lent (folios 16-27) and 'ane additional Catalouge of my Books begunn on January 4th 1728' (folios 28-51). There are some additions throughout in a later hand, and also, in both hands, further notes of books lent at various dates from 1708-1775.

Composite manuscript consisting of two volumes (folios 1, 75) of copies, circa 1585, 1607, of papers, 1537-1606, in Italian and Latin concerning attempts to restore Roman Catholicism in England in the 16th and early 17th centuries.

Scope and Contents From the Series:

The archive of the General Treasurer of the Free Church of Scotland, 1843-1900, with related papers including a few of slightly earlier and later date. The archive gives a complete picture of the financial basis of one of the most significant organised religious bodies in Scotland, from the Disruption to the first of the major Presbyterian reunions, dealing in great detail with the sources of finance and with its expenditure on a variety of projects.

Scope and Contents

This is a copy of MSS.5053-5054 with the leaves arranged differently, in two separate alphabetical sequences, and was the working copy used by the donor, Campbell White, in looking after the collection before Hugh Sharp's death.
